you The 'Reine Meije' - the Queen - towers above the
villages of La Grave and their hamlets from a height
of 3983 metres.
In the winter you will find a ski area which is unique
in Europe with 2150 metres vertical, and famed all over

In the summer explore the authentic village and hamlets
of La Grave, les Fréaux, le Chazelet, les Terrasses,
Ventelon, les Hières. Starting from these hamlets you
can hike in the Parc
National des Ecrins, which shelters a third
of the plant
species in France and more than 100 types
of wild animal of which the chamois, marmotte and royal
eagle are the most well known.
The Plateau d'Emparis is a vast pasture facing the glittering
Meije glaciers and offering wonderful hiking between
La Grave and Besse en Oisans. At each turn of the path,
the attentive hiker will see many traces of rural activity
such as terrassed fields, stables made of stone nestling
in the hollow of the mountain pastures , flocks of sheep
or herds of cattle.
